Sketches - Week 19

Overall, an uninspiring week of sketches... I wasn't in the best of moods and my pencil crayons kept breaking off on me!!! Very frustrating... Oh well...

Here's a guy messing with a gun who then blows his brains out...

Worship to a giant snake like thing...
Some random stuff:
More random stuff:
A skull faced weird creature thing...
Some shaman type calling out to some blue energy thing...
A girl with a mop... Based on a McFarlane toy:

That's it... I have an animation I have to work through this week and was thinking about not sketching everyday in support of it, but I think I will continue... Uninspired or not I think it's a good habit and I can accidentally learn things along the way.

Sketches - Week 18

Another week of sketches... Nothing special.

Some girl in a blouse and skirt. What's interesting about her (to me) is that she doesn't look like something drawn by me. I find it amusing when I draw things that look like someone else did them.

OK, this creep is a middle age, out of shape guy looking for women... He's a bit slimy as you might guess.
Some cut up monster guy who wants to die, but can't...
A metal chick. I've been playing Brutal Legend this week - cool game (even if the side missions are repetitive). :)
This guy is a bit too happy to have the girl...
Girl with sunglasses ignoring someone... Never happened to me before... I was in a bad mood this night so it was hard to draw anything. It's the same night the messy guy who wants to die above was done.
Red head because I felt like making one. I wanted a weird hair style so I ended up with that beehive like thing. I have no idea how the hair really goes in a beehive to do it better.
This was an experiment with a different style body then I'm used to. A little less realistic with the tiny legs and the big upper body.

That's all folks!

Sketches - Week 17

I did more than usual this week, plus found some extras I had sitting around in another sketch book from the past week or two. I use the second book to experiment more and do rough storyboards when I think of an idea.

First off some cartoon girl with different emotions/ideas.
An older looking girl in pen.
This was a rough for the cover of Mia's birthday card (which I didn't take pics of).
A marker sketch... I was playing with the markers to see how the page absorbs them, etc.
An outlined girl and cat and some pencil girl.
A quick pencil sketch of some girl and a little cat.
Pencil girl sketch.
From my real sketch book, this was the second sketch in the same day. I rarely use pencil in this book now, but in this case I did. I wanted it to just feel like utter hopelessness.
Red haired girl looking behind her. I felt like drawing a red head after watching the new Dr Who - the Scottish girl with him has red hair, but more red than this orange-red I used.
Cartoon heads from Preston Blair's book. I had no ideas and just felt like quickly messing around. There's always something to be learned from this kind of practice, though.
Fuming girl. Yeah, I'm pretty sure she's mad at me. It was from a dream, kind of. Don't worry in the dream we made up. ;)
A big head mutant kid squishing something with his giant arm. I had the idea for one small and one large arm, and then gave him a huge head for no reason.
Happy girl looking up. I actually wanted to draw her head entirely tilted up but it didn't go that way.
Guy looking back into the light. In the dark all kinds of monsters are waiting for him.
Some random sketches of women off things. They're not very good.
The first sketch I did this week. A weird monster with a little person in his hand.

That's it. See you next week.

Card for a Newborn...

So, my sister had a baby last week...

This is the card I put together for it. Not overly funny, but yeah...

Sketches - Week 16

Another week, more sketches...

Well, Saturday was my birthday and I decided to make a cartoon girl coming out of a cake to celebrate...
A girl...
A Celtic guy in the middle of killing...
A little girl giving her displeasure with something...
Some different girls and faces and stuff. The face on the bottom right was what was used in the girl above.
A dragon behind some mountains... I didn't have any real ideas this day, just wanted to draw something different than all the cartoon stuff lately.
This last one is admittedly a little weird. I've been reading a lot lately about absurdism, existentialism, and nihilism. I seem to be coming into contact with the "absurd" lately in life and have been having trouble figuring a way around it. I seem to encounter people who would like nothing better than to mess themselves up and their own people. This sketch is kind of about that. Everybody looks happy, but they're just being pulled along into their own destruction.

...And on that happy note, I'm done...

Sketches - Week 15

Nothing special this week...

Some attempts at small girls. My favourite is the one in the bottom right, but somehow when I redraw her I don't get it quite 100% the same cuteness.
Demon lady... No rhyme or reason why...
These are chinchillas. Some practice sketches before I made a birthday card (on paper - not animated).
Another design for a cartoon girl. This one looks a bit older to me. I tried sketching the original next to her with a weird expression, but she somehow doesn't look as good in this as the original.
Some cat pictures. The top is my cat quickly sketched. Of course she moved so I couldn't really capture her. I also didn't size things out appropriately and just drew straight-ahead without layout of her body. The bottom two are cartoony.
Some random faces... Some are better than others...
Girl in the rain, kind of looking depressed and wet.
Some cat pictures. I kind of like the bottom centre one, but I'm not looking for a standing cat, I want a cat that walks on all fours for what I'm thinking about working on.

That's it for this week...

Sketches - Week 14

Another week of sketches...

Girl holding her key ring... Her skin shouldn't be so yellow, I was experimenting with blending colours.

Girl in red... I decided to do this because I had drawn some sketches before in purple and decided why not try a colour since I had no real idea of what to draw.
Various cats doing nothing important...
Sort of an update to my "goth girl" character. I wanted to change her hair style. I unintentionally gave her a more normal sized body, though...

I had the idea for an standing cat doing a cat thing like sticking it's leg in it's ear to flick something out...
Some young girls... I don't particularly like this one.
Some women standing around...
Girl with a cat...

That's all for this week...
